Sister

Within my practice I am interested in family, adolescence, growing, changing, social issues and space and place. I strive to capture unfiltered, real and passionate imagery that show I am a family orientated, as my family motivate me to create projects.

“Sister”, explores the changing experiences of being an older sister to three younger brothers and relationship,s within my family, where care, hardship and quite observation coexist. Through intimate and candid imagery, I document shifting normalities, responsibilities, pressures and closeness, where I am both the participant and witness. I explored Photo Voice to help understand how my brothers and family feel. Taking photographs within “Sister”, became a way to hold onto expressions of understanding, trust and affection that shapes our relationships. I’m drawn in to the in between moments and the unspoken understanding formed over time, softness after conflict. These images aren’t staged but felt, formed by space & familiarity. In photographing my brothers, myself and my parents, I also reflect on my own role: how it’s been taught & redefined as we grow, how much I care for my family & how much its shapes our lives. Overall, this work is about family as an evolving space and how love is both constant and changing.
