“Shape Us”, a project based around childhood nostalgia, the importance of small moments we all experienced making us feel unstoppable, the importance on reflecting on memories to self heal and the hardship of childhood that intertwines with adult life. In the images you can see the childlike innocence (playing with the toys) the way color and detail was viewed as a child, however I wanted to show the look of disoriented and detached from our childhood personalities, showing a sense of hardship in childhood, “the bubble that’s so amazing in time but only lasts for a few seconds and then it’s gone”. In this project I focused on how childhood is constantly changing as the generations carry on, how social media is impacting child life forcing an early growth in children and how trauma as a child effects moments and later life.

Artist statement

“Childhood is often regarded as innocent & simple”. Looking at children in 2025, its not that simple anymore, we all had those moments in childhood where a place or something small & fun wold make us feel free. Recollections representing in life where everything seemed possible. Nostalgic memories bring a sense of healing and understanding. Children today are being manipulated by social factors, innocence is slowly draining away and unrealistic adult “standards” are being slammed in vulnerable faces, making children grow up at younger ages. I have 3 younger brothers- I don’t want their childhood being taken away. Studies show how young children are with social platforms, social media se increases, ising fom a third (34%) of children aged 3-7 to over six in ten (63%) 8-11s. Do you think this is too young?
